President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed extreme sadness over the collapse of a building housing a school in Itafaaji area of Lagos, which left fatalities, particularly of small children.


The President, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina sympathized with the parents and relations of the deceased, wishing them God’s comfort just as he is also wishing the injured speedy and complete recovery.


He commiserated with the government and good people of Lagos State, and pledged assistance of the Federal Government as may be required by the state.


“It touches one to lose precious lives in any kind of mishap, particularly those so young and tender. May God grant everyone affected by this sad incident fortitude and succour,” the President said.


He therefore charged the Lagos State government to do all that was needful, so that such tragic developments do not recur in future.


In a related development, a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Jide Jimoh also prayed for the Survivors and all the affected Families.

Jimoh, who represents Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency, has said the collapse of a three-storey building in Itafaji area of Lagos Island is a disheartening incident that needs Lagosians’ prayers and support.
The lawmaker, who expressed his sympathy in a statement released by his media office commended the prompt response by the Lagos state rescue team urging them to intensify efforts to rescue the remaining  victims.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families that lost their loved ones. God will comfort and fill the emptiness in their hearts. May the souls of the children who lost their lives in the collapsed building rest in peace”, he said

He further said that residents in the affected area should cooporate with LASEMA and other security agents on ground to hasten the recovery of those still trapped. “Lagosians should spend time to pray for the children and families involved in the collapsed builing,” Jimoh declared.
